How to use these words
- Ruka is both hand and arm; noga is both leg and foot.
- Some plurals are irregular: one eye is oko but eyes are oči; one ear uho, ears uši.
- Hlače (trousers) and usta (mouth) are always plural: Hlače su nove.
- Nositi means both to wear and to carry: Nosim jaknu, I am wearing a jacket.
A little culture
The necktie comes from Croatia. In the 17th century Croatian soldiers in France wore knotted scarves, the French called the style “à la croate”, and that is where the word cravat, and the Croatian kravata, comes from.
