⏱️ Present tense of verbs المضارع للأفعال
Three ending patterns cover almost every Croatian verb.
1. The three patterns side by side
Drop the infinitive ending (-ti) and add the endings. Each verb follows one of three patterns: -am, -im or -em.
| Person | čitati (read) · -am | raditi (work) · -im | pisati (write) · -em |
|---|---|---|---|
| jaI | čitam | radim | pišem |
| tiyou | čitaš | radiš | pišeš |
| on / onahe / she | čita | radi | piše |
| miwe | čitamo | radimo | pišemo |
| viyou (pl.) | čitate | radite | pišete |
| oni / onethey | čitaju | rade | pišu |
💡 One present tense covers English “I work”, “I am working” and “I do work”. There is no separate continuous form.
2. Negation
Put “ne” before the verb. Only biti, imati and htjeti (to want) have special negative forms.
Examples
- Ne razumijem.
I do not understand. · لا أفهم. - Ne govorim njemački.
I do not speak German. · لا أتكلم الألمانية.
