How to use these words

  • Prijava is check-in and odjava is check-out; the verbs are prijaviti se and odjaviti se.
  • Noćenje is one night’s stay, and doručak uključen means breakfast is included.
  • Kovčeg is one suitcase; prtljaga is luggage in general.

A little culture

Much of Croatia’s holiday accommodation is in private apartments and rooms; look for signs saying Sobe, “rooms”. Visitors also pay a small tourist tax per night (boravišna pristojba), usually added to the bill.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing up prijava and odjava: arriving is prijava, leaving is odjava.
  • Using putovnica for any ID. It is only the passport; an ID card is osobna iskaznica.
