How to use these words
- Najam is the rent, polog the deposit and ugovor the contract. Utilities such as struja (electricity) and grijanje (heating) are often called režije together.
- Floors are counted the European way: prizemlje is the ground floor and prvi kat the first floor above it.
- To report a problem: Imam kvar or Nešto se pokvarilo, možete li popraviti?, something broke, can you repair it?
A little culture
Rents are agreed in euros, and utilities usually come on top of the rent. People who move to Croatia to live also need to register their address with the authorities.
Common mistakes
- Assuming prvi kat is the ground floor. Ground level is prizemlje.
- Mixing up namješten (furnished) and nenamješten (unfurnished) in adverts.
