Possessives change their ending to match the thing owned, not the owner.
1. All possessives
Pick the row for the owner, then the column for the gender of the thing: moj brat, moja sestra, moje dijete.
| Owner | Masculine thing | Feminine thing | Neuter thing |
|---|---|---|---|
| jamy | moj | moja | moje |
| tiyour | tvoj | tvoja | tvoje |
| onhis | njegov | njegova | njegovo |
| onaher | njezin | njezina | njezino |
| miour | naš | naša | naše |
| viyour (pl.) | vaš | vaša | vaše |
| onitheir | njihov | njihova | njihovo |
Examples
- Moj brat je visok.
My brother is tall. · أخي طويل. - Ovo je naša kuća.
This is our house. · هذا بيتنا. - Gdje je tvoje dijete?
Where is your child? · أين طفلك؟ - Njezin muž je liječnik.

💡 When the owner is also the subject, Croatian uses “svoj”: “Volim svoju obitelj” = I love my (own) family.
