💯 Big numbers, dates and prices الأعداد الكبيرة والتواريخ والأسعار

Tens, hundreds, thousands, “first, second…”, dates, years and clock times.

1. Tens and hundreds

Read each row across: the same digit gives the tens and the hundreds. Most tens end in -deset, most hundreds in -sto.

Digit× 10× 100
1desetsto
2dvadesetdvjesto
3tridesettristo
4četrdesetčetiristo
5pedesetpetsto
6šezdesetšesto
7sedamdesetsedamsto
8osamdesetosamsto
9devedesetdevetsto

Examples

  • dvadeset i jedan
    21 · 21
  • sto pedeset
    150 · 150
  • tristo šezdeset pet
    365 · 365
  • devetsto devedeset devet
    999 · 999
💡 Numbers are said in order, biggest first, just like in English. The “i” (and) in 21 is optional: dvadeset i jedan = dvadeset jedan.

2. Thousands and millions

“tisuća” and “milijun” follow the 1 / 2–4 / 5+ rule from “Numbers with nouns”.

How manythousandmillion
1tisućumilijun
2 · 3 · 4dvije tisućedva milijuna
5+pet tisućapet milijuna

Examples

  • Stan košta dvjesto tisuća eura.
The flat costs 200,000 euros. · الشقة تكلف 200,000 يورو.
  • Zagreb ima oko osamsto tisuća stanovnika.
Zagreb has about 800,000 inhabitants. · في زغرب نحو 800,000 نسمة.

3. First, second, third…

Ordinal numbers are adjectives, so they change like adjectives: prvi dan, prva lekcija, prvo mjesto.

NumberMasculineFeminine
1.prviprva
2.drugidruga
3.trećitreća
4.četvrtičetvrta
5.petipeta
10.desetideseta
20.dvadesetidvadeseta
100.stotistota
💡 Croatian writes ordinals with a dot after the digit: “5. kat” is read “peti kat” (fifth floor).

4. Months, dates and years

Croatian has its own month names. A date is “ordinal + month in the -a form”: 29. rujna = the 29th of September.

  • Došla sam u Hrvatsku dvije tisuće dvadeset četvrte.
I came to Croatia in 2024. · أتيت إلى كرواتيا عام 2024.
💡 “On” a date uses the -og form: prvog svibnja (on the 1st of May). In a year only the last number changes: dvije tisuće dvadeset četvrte.

5. Prices and clock times

Timetables use the 24-hour clock. “pola” (half) counts towards the next hour, like in German: pola tri = 2:30.

Examples

  • Kava košta dva eura pedeset.
The coffee costs €2.50. · القهوة تكلف 2.50 يورو.
  • Koliko je sati? Pola tri.
